Connecting Software, Data and People Effectively
1) Software: There are millions of technology solutions and plenty of “XYZ Software Implementation – Certified – Senior” expert type consultants. These are experts you need to help put the software piece in correctly. We work hand and hand with this expert or do this function for you but can be most effective when brought in before the software is selected.
2) Data: Where do you get the information that you use to run your business? What leads are ready to close? Who is waiting for you to follow-up with them to do business? How can your marketing be more effective? -Check out my BizWit on the company giving out hands- When is the last time you did a data audit? How comfortable are you in the numbers? Do any of your analysts do cross departmental audits? Do you any referential data tests through your software systems? Do you actually know you have bad data somewhere in one of your systems? Really, how many excel spreadsheets does it take to get some basic information? Bad data is like a cancer to a company – if left unmitigated, it will spread and affect even the -good reports- that you use to make mission critical decisions.
3) People (Process): This is the biggest, most important and least included. This is the reason (they discover later) that companies hire me. I understand the PROCESS of strategic business and have the expertise to start at the beginning, walk all the way to the end, eliminate all the things you shouldn’t be doing and find all the things you should – whether it goes through the computer or not. Your people are doing the best job they can in the box they’ve been assigned in the machine. But the company can’t do well if the machine is broken.
You already know what doesn’t work…
I wish software was the magic bullet, but it isn’t.- Many times I arrive after IT has done a GREAT job implementing your software.
I wish data was simple and not so scary, but it isn’t. – If you cannot snap your fingers and know the blood pressure of your company – in DIGITS, something isn’t right.
I wish companies didn’t entrust process engineering to an intern, a ‘champion’ or their graphic designer, but they do. -This is a lot like hoping the babysitter or the neighbor can improve your child’s behavior. (Even though they think they know how!)
How I can help you…
You can review case studies of example projects I’ve done. I warn you, they are SCARY. Even scarier is that companies had no idea it was like this until I drew it to show them.
Schedule a 15 minute call with me about how I can help your company and your situation specifically.
Hire me to do an initial assessment (a one hour meeting with written report) or pick a package to retain me to help you make money easier.
Real World Example:
I live in a neighborhood that used to be covered with litter, all the time. The neighbors association spent YEARS complaining to the street cleaning service administration. That city department got better equipment, more training for their workers. Nothing changed. The association bugged the tourist board, had a few more trash cans installed, had a neighborhood cleanup team. Nothing changed.
I did a simple process audit. On Wednesday night, my neighborhood received street cleaning. On Thursday mornings, we had our scheduled trash pickup. The task of collecting the trash was messy and because it was happening right after the street was being cleaned, there was never time for it to stay clean. By lobbying the different departments to switch street cleaning to Thursday night (after trash pickup), we solved the problem.
I know, it sounds too simple to be true. But this is a great example of how the technology was right and the people were motivated and well trained – the challenge was in the process.
